Place of Birth and Background

  • Born on the Island of Chios, Greece, May 3, 1932.
  • Came to the United States March 1, 1950, and naturalized in 1960.

Family

Married to Rodothea A. Palaiologou of Boston, Mass.

He was the son of Stefanos and Vasilia.  Stefanos was a high school principal, director of one of the largest libraries of Greece, author of over 100 books, recipient of the medal of Phoenix by the King of Greece.  His paternal great-grandfather was an Orthodox Priest.  The City of Chios named a street after Stefanos Kavadas in September of 2001.

His brother, Constantine, is the manager of a shipping company in London, England.

Children: Iphigenia, Stephen, John and Basil (sons Stephen and Basil deceased)

Grandchildren: George and Rodothea Pappas the children of Iphigenia; Demetrios-Stefanos and Vasilia are the children of John.

  • First Parish:  St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Manchester, New Hampshire (Pastor at age 25), 1957-1962.
  • Second Parish:  Assumption of Detroit (moved to St. Clair Shores, MI in 1977), 2000 families.  March 1st, 1962-2001 (almost 40 years). Acclaimed as one of the top 20 parishes of the 600 in the U.S.A. during his pastorate.
  • Third Parish:  Upon the request of Metropolitan Sotirios, appointed Pastor of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Windsor, Ontario, Canada 2002-07.
