Fr. Nicholas G. Katsoulis

Fr. Nicholas G. Katsoulis, 70, a retired priest of the Archdiocese was killed on August 2, 2007 in a car accident on a Highway in Cyprus.

He was a native of Crete, Greece and completed elementary and high school there. He enrolled in 1975 at the Halki Seminary in Istanbul and earned a theological diploma after four years of study. He came to the Un States In August 1961 and enrolled in Columbia University where he earn a masters in sociology. He also attended Saint John’s University and was a Ph.D. candidate.

He married Anthoula Savas of Cyprus in December 1962. They became parents of two daughters, Irene and Sophia.

He was ordained a deacon January 28 1963 in New York by Archbishop Iakovos and a priest on February 10, 1963 by Metropolitan Germanos Poliizoides. He was bestowed the offikion of oikonomos and, protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne in 2004.

Fr. Katsoulis served several New York churches, including Saint George in Kingston, NY from 1963-1971, Saint Nicholas in Flushing as the third priest and Zoodochos Peghe in the Bronx from September 1976 to 1979. He also served Saint Sophia in Mexico City for two months, March to May 1976.

He then served at Sts. Constantine and Helen in West Nyack from July 1980 until 1992. After a two year leave of absence he served at Holy Cross Church in Whitestone, NY from July 1994 until his retirement in 1998.

He resided in Bayside, NY until his death.
