Member Biographies

Fr. George Poulos

The Very Rev. Father George Poulos was ordained in 1948 and after completed seven years as Pastor of the Holy Trinity Church in Norwich, CT. He was assigned to the Church of the Archangels in 1956 and has served ever since.

During his tenure here in Stamford, a new 11th Century Byzantine style Greek Orthodox Church was built at the corner of Bedford and Third Streets in 1958. It was officially consecrated by His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America.

Fr. Poulos is a graduate of Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline, Massachusetts and also attended the University of Connecticut and Yale Divinity School at Berkley in New Haven. He was appointed by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese as Vicar General of the Churches of the State of Connecticut. In addition to his duties as Pastor of the local Church of the Archangels, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Holy Cross Seminary, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of New York, Saint Basil's Academy at Garrison, New York and Executive Director of the Ionian Village Summer Camp program in Greece. He has served as Executive Director of the Byzantine Fellowship in America for over 30 years.

Fr. Poulos has been a member of the local Council of Churches and Synagogues as Vice President and is a Chaplain of the Stamford Fire Department. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Woodland Cemetery. He also was a major in the United States Air Force Civil Patrol for 30 years.

He is also the author of over 10 books and has written many articles pertaining to the Greek Orthodox Faith:

He is also President of the Federation of Greek Orthodox Churches in the State of Connecticut. Fr. Poulos is married to the former Christine Mirageas of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts and they have five sons and six grandchildren. Fr. is one of the oldest priest serving a parish full time.
